Maybe the question you should really ask is, 'does anyone now, use those
services?'.
If no one uses them and you shut down then, yes, you will gain a few CPU
cycles (Cal, probably not enough to make it 'faster'!). If they are in use,
then, Len's answer is probably true as will be Cal's. Certainly, any unused
service, if shut down, will leave more free resources on that computer.
IMAP is becoming the new standard in access to users email. It allows more
functions and capabilities for each user. I've come to like it and would not
be as happy a user, if my ISP shut it down. LDAP is probably less critical,
but again, it offers features that users are now, beginning to 'expect'.
So, if no one uses them and you stop them, there is almost no effect, good
or bad. If they are used, then effects could be minor or major, good and
bad!
