Scott,

You are correct when you said the official host name is the name of the server.

You have stumbled across one of the anomalies of IMail. In order to have
'[EMAIL PROTECTED]' instead of '[EMAIL PROTECTED]' you need to have the official host
name set to the domain name, and add an alias to the domain for the host. This is
because the official host name is tied to the name of the primary domain on the server.

Unfortunately, this setup causes problems with some smtp servers. Novell has a server
which does reverse-dns verification before accepting mail. If the host name reported
from the reverse-dns lookup is different from that reported by the smtp server, it
drops the connection.

IMail uses the official host name when reporting it's name to other servers, so the
setup above (which we use) will cause the Novell-type servers to not want to talk.

I know that Novell have received requests to improve the way it does the reverse-dns
verification, but I'm sure there are other servers which do the same thing.

The best solution (IMHO) is for IMail to allow the official host name to be specified
separately from the primary domain on the server. This would remove the confusion you
are experiencing (I went through the same thing when I first setup our server), whilst
allowing maximum connectivity with other smtp servers.

[EMAIL PROTECTED]

HI Len

So you mean that i should put domain.com in hte offical host name. and
mail.domain.com in the aliases. ? you that not make the users email address
[EMAIL PROTECTED] or would it make it [EMAIL PROTECTED] ?
I thought that the official host name was the name of the server.
Also how can i delete the setup that i have now and redo each domain right
but have the users and user information stay in contact. Some domains have
50 users and i do not know the passwords anymore, so deleting and recreating
would be havoc.
Step by step please. :-)

Thanks again

Scott
