This is a long standing problem. I've been told the story below by MS support also,
(not that they're doing anything about it...) The claim is that OE adheres to the
standard and others are doing it wrong...
Trained our users to go into their account via Web messaging to see their 'invisible
mail'. When in Outlook Express, they'll see a discrepancy between the unread messages
count next to the folder, and the actual number of unread messages. In all cases, Web
Messaging seems to show 100% of their mail.
In my own mailbox, the invisible messages are almost always 'unsolicited' mass
mailings rather than person to person messages.

This is because you are using IMAP and according to Ipswitch, Microsoft has
a bug in their client where by because of an improperly formed header, the
message is not downloaded... I have been told that if there is a leading
space in some part of the header, it will cause this to happen....
I live with this problem and it really irritates me, but I like Outlook
Express and IMAP enough that it all evens out in the end.
If anyone knows of a solution to this, please feel free to share... and
please don't give the canned "check the knowledge base" answer, as the
solution given there doesn't work !
Thanks,
Jim
