Jaysan,
Starting from DNS data using the FQDN you gave:
DNS:
humphry-davy.cornwall.sch.uk.
nameserver = dns0.swgfl.ifl.net.
nameserver = dns1.swgfl.ifl.net.
100, mx2.ifl.net.
10, mx.swgfl.ifl.net.
50, mx1.ifl.net.
mx.swgfl.ifl.net.
62.171.194.108
62.171.194.109
mx1.ifl.net.
213.18.248.74
mx2.ifl.net.
213.18.248.75
Telnet to host, Using MX 10 and this address: 62.171.194.109
220 dns0.swgfl.ifl.net RM Scanmail ESMTP server Tue, 03 Apr 2001 15:32:42
+0000
now this address: 62.171.194.108 -
220 dns1.swgfl.ifl.net RM Scanmail ESMTP server Tue, 03 Apr 2001 15:41:16
+0000
Virus scanners? Maybe these hosts are rerouting or deleting the mail based
upon virus or other filter?
Telnet to host, Using MX 50:
220 mx1.ifl.net ESMTP Sendmail 8.10.1/8.10.1; Tue, 3 Apr 2001 15:35:45 GMT
Again, another server which may have some rules, A-V software or something
that might reroute email.
Telnet to host, Using MX 100:
220 mx2.ifl.net ESMTP Sendmail 8.10.1/8.10.1; Tue, 3 Apr 2001 16:37:56 +0100
See above!
None of these are IMail, so any email that is destined for the IMail machine
must apparently pass through any one of these SMTP servers, who can have an
effect on delivery. All need to be checked to determine where the email may
now reside (it must be someplace, if it was not bounced, but it may have
been accepted and deleted, too, by A-V or other filter).
The only way you can be sure only IMail is involved would be to send the
email using an email address that resolves to the IP used by IMail. I was
not able to determine the IP or hostname, so could not connect to the IMail
server.
