Scott-
First, I hope you made a typo in your email below --- you said you are using
NTMail. This is an Ipswitch IMAIL list :-). Perhaps this question should be
posted to the isp-nt list. But I reply to you here with a few comments.
It is very difficult to understand your zone file layouts as you have
explained them below. It might have been better to actually post the
relavent portions of your actual zone files. But as far as some email not
getting delivered to some domains, it is most likely a reverse DNS issue. If
your *IMAIL* server's FQDN is mail.planetinterlink.com, the REVERSE DNS
entry for 207.228.126.171 should also read mail.planetinterlink.com
171 IN PTR mail.planetinterlink.com.
As far as not being able to ping the domain name without www, you need an @
address record. In BIND DNS for NT, it looks like this:
@ IN A 207.228.126.173
I assume there is something similar in MSDNS, but I have no idea how you
would enter it in that GUI.
CNAMES are really just aliases. You must have an A record for each host in a
domain. I do not believe a CNAME record can point to an IP address. Only A
records can. So CNAME records without A records will get you no where. I'm
no DNS expert, but I think I'm pretty close. Len Conrad will probably jump
in and correct any of my mistakes.
Good luck.
