For a long time rules.ima seemed to work most of the time
and intermittantly fail. I have had no explanation why. The
earlier message this week was talking about possible multiple
ima files inspired me to test a few things. I screen adult
content now and had seperate rules.ima in the base, the domain,
and finally the adult in the user's or domain. After watching
this closely for about 5 days now, I have to say that I think
the final rules.ima in line of processing takes precedence over
the others, or so it appears. I have to qualify this and say
that I am running Imail 5.x. I was aware of the processing
sequence outline in the manual, but could not find more details
on the subject in the knowledgebase.
I tested the '.rul' method earlier today here and it did not
work at all for me. Maybe I am doing something wrong but I simply
could not get it to work.
I wrote a batch file to merge my regular anti-spam rules with
my adult rules and recycle the SMTP service and this seems to
be working from what I have seen. Rules simply do not seem to
fail intermittantly if they are all combined in the last in the
processing sequence. I have refined these rules daily for four
years now, learning what works and so I am up to 6200 rules in
the fully combined file. <grin> Some of these rules evolved off
our detailed keywords filtering on our portal at www.infogrid.com
So you can understand why I would ask about size or limits. This
seems to be processing fine as long as it all the rules are in
the last file 'seen' or processed by the Imail sequence.
I must say too that the main Declude log is invaluable to see
subject patterns for developing rules. If the same spammer that
is blacklisted one moment might be using a non-blacklisted
server the next moment. With Declude you can get a real-time
'measuring stick' of current spammers subjects to use as a
model for developing effective rules. The combination of rules
and Declude together is very powerful.
