Re: [IMail Forum] Declude Virus and Junk Mail on Thursday 6:18:37 AM

We constantly monitor our NT4 servers all the time with Task Manager
while running Declude for antivirus scanning by McAfee and F-Protect
and use both JunkMail and Hijack. The Delude processes never even
add up to 1%, they sit at virtually zero all the time. We see almost
no processor use by virus scanners. The bulk of processor use is by
SMTP32.Exe processes (99%). This is NT4 with 128MB ram and 700MHz.

Typically the only Declude program that will take minute amounts of
processor time is the DecCon.Exe that comes with Hijack. It uses very
brief intermittant 2-4% of processor as it refreshes automatically
every few seconds loading logging information. This program is wonderful
as then you can 'real-time' watch what your server is doing. When I
first started running Imail I was disappointed I did not have a real
time display, like SLMail for example. Hijack DecCon.Exe adds this
monitoring display back. It reads logs and even adds up total spams,
virus messages, and displays mail server activities including totals
of Junkmail spam weights of mail passing through your setup.

Imail told me one of the primary reasons for using the Symantec setup
for only antivirus was concern over processor use by Declude. I have
no idea where they got this concern. I run all Declude programs,
including Confirm and Que.. and I see no appreciable processor use
at all. SMTP32.Exe still occupies 99-98% of my server's CPU use.
