I suspect magic.

If those big ISP's required reverse DNS of all MTA's, they'd have a 
horrible problem with millions of false positives.

If fixing your reverse zone really did contribute to solving your delivery 
failures, then it was ONLY a contribution and you have other problems that 
combined with bad reverse caused the rejects.

Proof, ie evidence, would be useful.
