no, Imail sends mail out the gateway only if it's not local.

I think maybe what's incorrect is what you see happening.  Imail's remote 
gateway sending has always worked fine, I've seen no complaints on it.

Show us logs from the Imail machine where it has "gdeliver" lines with the
