I have relay setup on my server as to the ipaddress of our customers. Take
for instance, if they are on 10.10.10.0 ip range choose the option to add a
"Group of computers" and input the ipaddress range of your custmers
(10.10.10.0).

Hope this helps,

J.R. Dobyns

Subject: [IMail Forum] Help on Closing an Open Relay

Hi All,

I have recently found out that my mail server is an open relay.

I've read everything I can find in the IMail manual ( running v6.0.2.362 )
regarding closing the open relay, but to no avail.

To stem the flow of spam through our server we purchased and installed
Declude Hijack. That fixed the problem of sending all the spam, but we are
still an open relay as far as the spammer scanners and some of the black
hole lists go.

I have been using the "Control Access" option for the "Relay Mail for
Anyone" Relay Option, and that works too, but the spammers are much faster
than I am at changing the IP they send from and I can't keep up.

Every time I choose any other option other than the "Relay Mail for Anyone"
Relay Option, either we can't send email out, or legitimate mail to us is
refused and bounced back to the sender.

I know it can't be this hard to close an open relay, but I just can't seem
to figure out how to do it and still receive legitimate email.

Isn't there a way that I can just tell the server that if the mail isn't
from or to one of my valid IMail users, bounce it?

Any help you could offer to a newbie would be greatly appreciated.

Thanks in advance,

Jeff
