There's no rule of thumb.  You can use "No mail relay" or "Relay for 
addresses", it's your choice (any other option will allow spammers to send 
mail through your server for free).  Both require SMTP AUTH, with the 
exception that "Relay for Addresses" doesn't require SMTP AUTH from users 
coming from IP addresses that you list.
