Actually, I agree with your [revised] point but was rather commenting on
your initial statement concerning "reduction in bandwith usage to your *mail
server.*" (My emphasis.) Sorry for the confusion, if any.

I think your missing the point I was trying to make....  Even with a
Bastion server, the intended message, be it spam,virus, or whatever
STILL utilizes bandwith on your internet connection.  So that your mail
server, and every other service traversing your upstream Internet
connection benefits.

If you have a virtually free "bastion" box (� la IMGate) in front of
your IMail server, then that box would be taking the hits and your IMail
server would benefit from the 30% average bandwidth reduction that you
mention (or whatever the actual figure is).
