Group, For the last 6+ months, my Imail users have been unable to receive any e-mail from subscribers at Earthlink. I have spent dozens of hours to track down the problem, but to no avail. Strangely enough, Earthlink is the ONLY domain that we can't receive mail from. We have no problems with other ISP's.
Today, I finally caught a break. I was watching the logfiles in real-time when I spotted the below SMTP conversation. It seems to show that one of our hosting customers at prodial.com attempted to send an e-mail to a user at earthlink.net, but that there was some sort of lookup failure. Here its is: 20020529 181257 127.0.0.1 SMTP (223) [x] official name mail.thedigest.org 20020529 181257 127.0.0.1 SMTP (223) D:\IMail\spool\Q0b17102.SMP 20020529 181257 127.0.0.1 SMTP (223) processing D:\IMail\spool\Q0b17102.SMP 20020529 181258 127.0.0.1 SMTP (223) sender [EMAIL PROTECTED] 20020529 181258 127.0.0.1 SMTP (223) recip is <[EMAIL PROTECTED]> 20020529 181258 127.0.0.1 SMTP (223) [x] looking up earthink.net in HOSTS and MX 20020529 181258 127.0.0.1 SMTP (223) [x] looking up earthink.net in HOSTS and MX 20020529 181258 127.0.0.1 SMTP (229) [x] Description: WinSock 2.0 20020529 181258 127.0.0.1 SMTP (223) closed D:\IMail\spool\_0b17102.~MP - 1 20020529 181258 127.0.0.1 SMTP (223) R<[EMAIL PROTECTED]> - 1 20020529 181258 127.0.0.1 SMTP (223) [x] doing direct send earthink.net 20020529 181258 127.0.0.1 SMTP (223) Trying earthink.net (0) 20020529 181258 127.0.0.1 SMTP (223) [x] delivery to host earthink.net 20020529 181258 127.0.0.1 SMTP (229) [x] official name mail.thedigest.org 20020529 181343 127.0.0.1 SMTP (223) MX connect fail "192.168.1.1" 20020529 181343 127.0.0.1 SMTP (223) R<[EMAIL PROTECTED]> - 1 20020529 181343 127.0.0.1 SMTP (223) R<[EMAIL PROTECTED]> - 1 20020529 181343 127.0.0.1 SMTP (223) requeuing D:\IMail\spool\Q0b17102.SMP R0 T18 20020529 181343 127.0.0.1 SMTP (223) finished D:\IMail\spool\Q0b17102.SMP status=3 Can anyone help me to figure out why IMail is reporting the wrong IP address, thus trashing the e-mail attempts? Here is some other pertinent info: I host mail.prodial.com on my Imail machine at 208.25.165.179. The main IP of my Imail machine is 208.25.165.171 (mail.thedigest.org). I am not using NAT. There are "real" IPs on the IMail box, not 192.168.2.x. I looked in the HOSTS file. There is no mention of earthlink.net anywhere, and the record for mail.prodial.com is correct. I run my own DNS servers at NS1.THEDIGEST.COM and NS2.THEDIGEST.COM. There is no entry for earthlink.net in my DNS. The DNS entries for my own domains is o.k. When I query my own DNS servers for earthlink.net, I get the same results as from any other DNS server. My third DNS server listed on my boxes is 208.25.112.1, which belongs to my upstream provider. They have NO problems with earthink.net. Would greatly appreciate any insight. This has been driving me nuts for months!
