In Erics solution you can look at the main.inf date of the file and, after enough 
time, delete the inactive account.  (the time would depend on what you want.)

we do that today with accounts for employees who are no longer here.  After 6 months, 
we delete the account but until then, use the auto responder to inform then that the 
employees is no longer here.... works well...
