Thanks for the tip!  That was it!!  Things are flying now...better than they
ever have

I remember this issue being posted here about a month ago, but didn;t pay
much attention to it as the problems we had back then did not revolve around
SMTP connections to the server; all of a sudden, though, as we identified
every other issue and resolved it (with much assistance from this list I
must add!) the SMTP connection issue became more and more prevalent, and we
could not figure out why it would all of a sudden behave this way... - wow -
how such a simple change can make all the difference.....

My hat's off to all contributors on this list - your guidance has been
irreplaceable.....
