As a test to hopefully narrow the issue, I might try
creating a second local user account (with full admin
privileges, of course).

When the connection bombs, log off as "Administrator"
and log on as your newly-created account.  If
connectivity is restored, that would tend to confirm a
"logged-on user account" issue, and time to look
closely at what is happening to the network settings in
the Administrator hive.

If the connection remains hosed under the new logon, at
that point my advice to you is to start drinking
heavily. <grin>
