The "idle timeout" should mean that the TCP/IP connection was broken somehow without officially ending (for example, if I connect to your mailserver, then pull the power plug on my computer, the TCP/IP connection will stay open until it times out, since my computer can't send a "closing the TCP/IP connection" message). Some are killed by Declude, so that's ok, but I've seen messages that don't seem to go anywhere. That's what worries me. Here's an example from the log:02:10 20:11 SMTPD(1670014A) [63.160.179.20] connect 63.160.179.220 port 1046 02:10 20:11 SMTPD(1670014A) [63.160.179.220] HELO hppav 02:10 20:11 SMTPD(1670014A) [63.160.179.220] MAIL FROM: <valid user> 02:10 20:11 SMTPD(1670014A) [63.160.179.220] RCPT TO: <valid address> that's it. 30 minutes later...... 02:10 20:43 SMTPD(queue run) 6620 9 851 02:10 20:43 SMTPD(1670014A) idle timeout That's the last bit for 1670014A - no spool message ID no nothing! So since this is a user of ours, I need to know what's going on.
So my guess here is that the connection timed out. IMail never sent back a "Message Received" command to the mail client that connected to it, so the mail client will try again later (so the E-mail wasn't lost).
