My question has to do with the "SendName" registry key (as documented in KB article IM-20000517-DM01). I am trying to write a custom filter app to deal with spam. Yes, I know Declude probably does what I want, but I work at a company with ZERO budget for this stuff, don't get me started. :)
I have tried setting this key to both a batch file and a VB compiled executable.. both basically take a parameter, do the rename, etc., as per the KB article. In both cases, after stoppping and starting the SMTP service, delivery doesn't work and there is no evidence that my custom filter was executed -- even when these programs (both BAT and EXE) were "stripped down" to do nothing but log the fact that it was called. Running the batch job manually (including the call to SMTP32 at the end) worked fine on the Q*.SMD files that were "stuck" while the SendName field was set to my batch program... in other words, all of the steps in the batch job were "correct" according to the KB. It's like Imail just never bothers to execute the program. In all cases, full pathnames to EVERYTHING were included, and I also tried both "d:\imail\spam.bat" and "c:\winnt\system32\cmd.exe /c d:\imail\spam.bat" as SendName values. Ipswitch support says that this key is "unsupported", so I'm hoping that someone here has gotten custom SMTP filters to work and has some tips. We are currently running Imail 6.06.
