My question has to do with the "SendName" registry key (as documented in KB article IM-20000517-DM01). I am trying to write a custom filter app to deal with spam. Yes, I know Declude probably does what I want, but I work at a company with ZERO budget for this stuff, don't get me started. :)
Don't worry, I won't suggest estimating the number of hours it will take to write your own program and keep it updated, and compare that to the cost of anti-spam software. :)
I have tried setting this key to both a batch file and a VB compiled executable.. both basically take a parameter, do the rename, etc., as per the KB article. In both cases, after stoppping and starting the SMTP service, delivery doesn't work and there is no evidence that my custom filter was executed -- even when these programs (both BAT and EXE) were "stripped down" to do nothing but log the fact that it was called.
Did you stop/restart the IMail SMTP service after changing the SendName registry entry?
Does the .bat or .exe file have the correct security/privileges so that it can be run from a service?
I believe some people have had troubles using batch files with the SendName hook -- I would recommend only trying with .exe files, and avoiding batch files.
