What I can't figure out is why would IMail not start to use the secondary MX after a while?
If the primary MX is saying 4xx/5xx, then GAMEOVER.
Why do you think that if you had a hacked-up MTA that then would try to deliver to any backup MX would change anything? What would be better for the sender, the recipient, your MTA, the primary MX? What are you trying to accomplish with such a hack?
