Working in a service industry, I would think there is a serious problem if I released a product that's main new features were turned off by most people at the recommendation of many here on the list, because the functionality isn't as comprehensive as an existing add-on.

Let me just comment here. Despite the fact that Ipswitch came out with an add-on that directly competes with one of ours without letting us know, and later included functionality in IMail v8 similar to our other program, Ipswitch seems to have done (almost) the right thing here.
Yes, from what I can tell, most of our Declude JunkMail customers that have upgraded to IMail v8 have turned off the anti-spam features in IMail v8. That isn't very surprising, because Declude JunkMail is a "best of breed" anti-spam program that has years of R&D behind it. I'm guessing that Ipswitch was aiming to include anti-spam in IMail v8 that compared favorably with what other mailservers now have built-in, which they did a good job of. But I don't believe their goal was to build the best anti-spam software on the market -- for good reason. Doing so would take a lot of resources away from the base product, it would have harmed us more, and it's something that would have been very difficult for them to do (they just don't have years of experience with anti-spam).
From what I can tell, though, *some* people who have upgraded to IMail v8 (that do not have Declude JunkMail) have turned off the anti-spam in IMail v8. But, most are keeping it on, and working with it. Some of them need more and are purchasing Declude JunkMail; others are content with it.
I think the main reason for so many people turning off the anti-spam in IMail v8 is that Ipswitch had it turned on and blocking E-mail by default, which was a very big mistake. Any feature that prevents legitimate E-mail from being delivered will get turned off quickly by lots of people.
A good case in point here is the infamous checkboxes: deny null senders, and the relay options. Why haven't they removed these silly problem causing options?
Actually, they moved the "Refuse NULL <> Senders" option to the "Use-at-your-own-risk" Advanced SMTP settings section for v8, which I think is good. But yes, the relay settings definitely should have been fixed for IMail v8.
