I just setup a server running Spamassassin and updated my MX records to route all mail through it. However, many spammers send mail directly to my mail server, thus circumventing my spamfilter.
Is Imial still in MX records as backup MX? then remove it, that little bit of obscurity really does help.
I have many users who pop3 into my mailserver's current address so I can't change the address.

But if you have been hit really hard, I suspect some spammers have your IP address noated as "successful victim", and will spam your Imail IP directly so removing imail hostname from MX may not be completely effective, but it does stop spam from spammer who do follow MX records.
What I would like to achieve is to allow ONLY my spamfilter machine to connect to my mailserver via SMTP while continuing to allow my users to connect via POP3. How is the best way to achieve this?
block access to the Imail machine port 25 at your router, but your POP users don't SMTP AUTH to the Imail machine?
