Backup MX, no anti-spam - you suggest don't use.
Is your advice still the same if the backup MX only backups an Imail server, has no other purpose in life, and transfers all mail only to the primary? And the primary is running anti-spam stuff.
That all depends on whether the primary mailserver can handle anti-spam from backup MX records. If you've got Declude JunkMail, you're fine (you just need to let it know the IP address of your backup mailserver, with the IPBYPASS option).
But in the case of the person posting here, who is just using filtering, it isn't possible to use IMail's Control Access file to block E-mail sent through the backup mailserver.
