Ahem... you're right, with the exception of webmail. I jumped the gun because
I tested this from webmail and got odd results. I configured a domain without
peering and tried to send a message to a user that wasn't on my local server.
Sure enough it tried to deliver [EMAIL PROTECTED] to my gateway server.
The option "send all mail through remote gateway" allows this from webmail.
Interesting eh?

So if your smtp clients all point towards your gateway, and webmail is also
relaying emails to your gateway, then all the email will hit your gateway and
be mapped to the correct alias. Although I'm sure you'll agree this isn't
very efficient use of resources. Peering with IMGate would still be an
interesting option, but the advantage over regular IMail peering isn't clear
(with the exception of the worst case many node all same MX pref, all across a
WAN).
