This raises a question with regards to address harvesting and dictionary
attacks on imail:
Does Declude (or any other option) reduce or prevent address harvesting and
dictionary attacks?

An Imail Tech told me that there was nothing we could do to prevent these
two problems??!! This was prior to version 8.x.

Please, do tell!

We used them for several months, and while they provided an excellent
service overall, we had the following issues with them:

1) Their (Then) ability to prevent address harvesting was not very mature
(they did stop about 2,000 per day, but we still saw around 8,000 - not
effective)

2) This is in line with the address harvesting. Since all incomming
harvest attacks had the Postini SMTP addresses in the logs, we could no
longer act to prevent Dictionary attacks directed at our server. We were at
the mercy of Postini, who said this "We are stopping about 2,000 per day"
(Not good when that is only 20%)

3) Many users had trouble understanding the front end that Postini used.
This is not necessarily Postini's Fault, just that most people aren't ready
for that level of interaction yet.

4) The system was set up to auto-create users based on an acceptance of a
smtp deliver to an address and you are billed on that automation. The
downfall is that they don't automatically delete a user based on the failure
of a smtp deliver. Removal is manual, and in our experience, a pain in the
a#$ to maintain.

Jason

Subject: [IMail Forum] Anyone have any experiences with Postini ?

Our small web hosting service is examining different spam solutions, and
while Declude tends to be my choice, Postini
(http://www.postini.com/index.html) is the current management favorite.

I know Postini is more of a managed service, but does anyone have much
experience with running the Postini service with Imail?
How do they compare with filtering versus the level of control available
from the Declude solution and are there other services for spam control
that are on the same level as Postini?

Thanks for any info you might have on these guys.
