In WIN 2K, both professional and server, you must add all tasks via the SCHEDULED TASKS icon in the control panel window. Adding them from a command line does not always enable them. Given the number of new viruses lately, I have my anti-virus software scheduled to check for new defs every day at 03.00 hours.
Actually, we find that some of our customers update their virus definitions as often as every 4 hours (but then again, we also have a few customers using 3 or more virus scanners!). However, the optimal frequency of updating depends a lot on your normal volume of viruses (the more you receive compared to other mailservers, the more frequently you should update).
