I am currently evaluating IMail 8. In my organization, we now have three mail servers: IMail running on Windows 2003, SLMail 5.5 running on Windows 2000 and Exchange 2000. All three servers sit behind Microsoft ISA Server.
Even though I have configured the Hosts file on IMail to deliver mail to SLMail and Exchange domains using private IP addresses, IMail continues to do a DNS lookup or resolves the host name from its DNS cache and attempts to send mail using the external IP addresses from DNS.
I have successfully setup and tested an SMTP connector from Exchange to IMail and a routing rule from SLMail to IMail, but sending from IMail to either of the other servers fails.
Is this a bug or am I doing something wrong?
In the HOSTS file, are you using the domain in the E-mail address? For example, is I send an E-mail to "[EMAIL PROTECTED]", and the IMail server is gateway.example.com, and the mail gets routed to mail.example.com (at 192.0.2.25), you would want a line "192.0.2.25 example.com" in the HOSTS file (not gateway.example.com or mail.example.com).
