Greetings. Long time lurker here.

I have an application that kicks off mail every hour.
I notice that when it does this, my email server CPU
hits 100% for about 10 minutes while the email is
spooled and sent out.

What I would like to do is have a 2nd Imail server set
up to only send email. It would not have any incoming
email on it at all. It would just send email for my
application.

My primary Imail server uses the ODBC database and has
all of the mailboxes on it. Lets say the primary
email server also holds the domain mail.abc.com for
which we have users checking pop3 email.

My idea is on the 2nd (send only) email server to shut
down everything except SMTPD and Queue Manager. I'd
set up a mail2.abc.com domain. I'd point my
application to this new mail server.

Now, I'm concerned that if the 2nd email server has an
MX record that incomming email for abc.com might get
routed to the 2nd (send only) server. I don't ever
want it handling any incomming email. But if I don't
set up an MX record, then I risk other email servers
rejecting the email I'm sending out.

Any thoughts or recommendations on how I should set
this up?
