NOTE: This is submitted as a defect #3527 with Ipswitch.
(IMAIL Pro v8.05)
I have determined, and Ipswitch has confirmed, that some aliases defined and operational in a domain may not be visible through the web management interface.
I noticed this when help desk personnel were attempting to modify an alias they knew existed, but could not find it in the web management interface. I confirmed that it -- the alias -- exists and is functional.
How did the help desk know it was there? I have written an ASP page to export the aliases from the registry in XML format so that some other in-house processes could read them. An error in one of the aliases prompted a request for a correction which the help desk could not satisfy.
My XML reports the alias count (745) as does the web admin (527). I have confirmed through exporting the registry and independently counting the entries. 95% of these aliases (the 745) were created with the addalias.exe utility. I have passed this on to Ipswitch who has reproduced the problem. Neither they nor I have been able to determine a pattern.
If you count on email administrators (domain or system) being able to manage aliases without using the IMail Administrator, you may wish to investigate whether all your aliases are being exposed through that interface. More response to Ipswitch will escalate the investigation of this problem by them.
