We have our SMTP retry timer set as follows:

Retry time (in minutes): 60
Retries before returning to sender: 240

Now technically this means that messages should be bounced 240 hours after
they are originally sent. In reality however it takes about 2.5 hours (the
reason it's set to 240 is because it only takes a few minutes if it's set
lower). We do not have a mail gateway server set up or configured.

It doesn't seem to matter what we set the retry timer to - it's ignored.
240 minutes after the send the message bounces. This is kind of a pain for
outgoing messages, but it's even more of a pain for ETRN users where
occasionally their server might be down for a couple of hours (T is down, or
SDSL or whatever) and the mail starts bouncing instead of accumulating on
our server as it should.

Anyone have any ideas? Have we inadvertently set some other setting that
disables the timer?

Cheers and thanks in advance for any help,
Lee
