Also, some virus scanners cause massive inefficiency/grief when trying to scan mailboxes that SMTP etc's trying to deliver to. Try switching your virus scanner off for a couple of mins (or at least make sure the scanners not running over the imail mailbox & spool directories).

Thanks for the suggestions though.  Anyone got anything else?

Hmmm... can sympathise! Best first stab if SMTP/Queue Manager are going crazy would be to check you're locked down against being an open relay for spam - a spam engine using you as an open relay would cause exactly these symptoms. Look in SMTP settings and check you're happy with them.

Try switching your virus scanner off for a couple of mins (or at least make sure the scanners not running over the imail mailbox & spool directories). If your CPU suddenly drops to a reasonable level, it's time to get a new virus scanner that plays more sympathetically with IMail.

Subject: [IMail Forum] CPU Problems w/Imail 8.x

I work for a webhost that maintains 25 separate installations of Imail Server running the latest version (8.05?).  Each server contains approximately 1,000 separate domains, with no set limit on the user inboxs.  When we were using v7.15, we had major problems with emails getting stuck in queue.  This was resolved when upgrading to the 8.0 series, however the trade off was that we now have major problems with CPU load.  Typically, the CPU runs at about 100% during what I would call a 'normal' load.  CPU is split b/t Queue Manager, SMTP, and occasionally the Web Messaging processes.

Any suggestions on how to ease my troubled CPU?

Jamie Price
