Okay, but the symptoms you describe sound like SMTPD is calling an external process which isn't there (or the process isn't calling smtp32 when it's done). If you had a process in place and removed it but did not change the SENDNAME back, this is exactly what would happen. What is in iadmin - localhost - services - smtp - advanced - Delivery Application? If you don't have an external plug in it should contain your path to the IMail directory \ smtp32.exe like c:\imail\smtp32.exe.
