OK this is the way to do it with IIS 6.0, but I’m running IIS 5.0 and Windows 2000. Do anyone of you know if it is possible to run Windows Media Services 9 Series on an Windows 2000 server?

Let’s see if I can post without being told to get off the list and leave everyone alone.  I found an article that describes this somewhat except using IIS and Windows Media Server on port 80.  I am using another web mail instead of Media Services though and have it working just fine across reboots with no additional configuration beyond this.  Let me state first that you will need to run them on separate IP’s.

First Install Windows Media Services.  You will not have to use it.  Windows Media Services Installs the Utility you will need to do this configuration.  Then follow these steps

1.         From a command prompt, type the appropriate command to stop the following services:

·               Imail Web Services (just stop it I forgot the actual dos way to do it since I started to migrate my customers away from Imail since I started getting nasty emails from someone)

·               Internet Information Services: net stop iisadmin

·               Http.sys Listener: net stop http

2.         Run the WMSHttpSysCfg utility (located at %systemroot%\system32\windows media\server\admin\mmc\WMSHttpSysCfg.exe).

3.         Add the IP addresses that you want Http.sys to listen to. The addresses that Http.sys does not listen to are available for WMS to use. (If this list is blank, Http.sys listens to all non-loopback IP addresses).

4.         Click OK to close the dialog box.

5.         Restart the services that you stopped in step 1 (including, but not limited to):

·               Http.sys Listener: net start http

·               World Wide Web Publishing Service or IIS Admin: net start w3svc

6.      change the port for Imail Web to port 80

7.      Start Imail Web Service

8.      Disable the Windows Media Services if you do not plan to use it

Now my only question is if they only let you use port 80 how are you going to do email?  And if this works for you please send me money

Subject: [IMail Forum] IMail v 8.1, WebMessageing and IIS on port 80 on the same box?

Hi!

I’m installing an eval version of IMail Server 8.1 on a box where I’m already running Windows 2000 and IIS on port 80

On that box I have multiple IP addresses and IIS is using one of them. I’m trying to get WebMessageing to run on port 80 on the same box but on a different IP address

I found some old form April 2002 in the KB, and I did get it to run ad hoc. But I do not manage to get it to work after a reboot.

I’m using a server hosting service at a company and they will only let me use port 80 through their firewall, and I will have to script any solution that will not start automatically if the server reboot for some reason.

Please help, IMail server 8.1 seams to be a great product, and I would hate to choose another.
