Chris,

One other solution to the opening of logs bogging down your machine would be
to transition to a better program. Notepad/wordpad just don't cut it when
working with very large files. Take a look at UltraEdit. It does not have
the same limitations that these programs have.

Thanks for all or your reply's,

I find it hard to believe that you can't write the syslogs to a separate
directory than spool without installing additional software.

Anyone ever try On the "Localhost" tab, changing Log Server: 127.0.0.1
to 127.0.0.1\G:\Logs ?

I thought I was just unable to find an article on it, but I guess it is
a problem.

Fragmentation as you guys know is a huge issue on Windows boxes. When
these logs files become over 100 megs it takes a long time to open.
Even with a big box. If the logs, spool, and mailboxes share the same
partition combined with heavy traffic, SMTP dies when you open them.

My idea was to log sys and spam to their own partition to resolve this
issue.

If any other ideas are out there, please let me know.

Hi,

In that case use a log server, can be a service on the same server, to
redirect the logs to. Have a look at kiwi syslog
http://www.kiwisyslog.com/

Thanks for the reply, Scott.

This article pertains to moving the spool directory.

I have already moved the spool directory out of IMAIL, but I want to
move the log files out of the spool directory.

It appears the logs follow the spool but I want them on their own
partition.
