I can appreciate what you're saying but when you're working with non-profits and volunteer organizations, money *is* an issue. In the corporate world, your argument is extremely valid.
I do know about that -- there are quite a few times where I have volunteered my time where the non-profit could have paid for something (software, vehicle, fax machine, whatever) that would have saved more than what my time was worth. It is indeed a lot harder for a non-profit to justify the expense, though, since they do not see a dollar return on the expense (unless, of course, the time spent is by employees rather than volunteers -- the same equation holds true for both non-profits and the corporate world if employees are doing the work).
