It sure isn't a healthy kudo for Ipswitch's mail server product if they wish to set up a web forum rather than use the tools they actually sell.
In Ipswitch's defense, I'm sure that telephone company workers often E-mail each other. And telephone bills often come by mail (and when they do not, they don't come by phone). If the technology of the forum works better than a mailing list, it may be best for them to use it.
On the other hand, I can say for certain that while I (like many others here) may be able to often respond to posts here within minutes, it's unlikely that I would go to their website every few minutes to check for new messages. Perhaps a couple times a day, until maybe I forgot to go there, and *poof* I'm gone. That can't happen with a mailing list.
