Bill, Unlike a previous poster here, I am not going to "beg" you for anything. I will continue to use iMail only if it makes financial and technical sense for me to do so, AND if I see a genuine shift in attitude towards supporting the company's EXISTING customers. After all, if it weren't for people like us on this list, Ipswitch would have gone out of business long ago.
Regarding Norton being the "market leader" in AV technology, please keep in mind that there are MANY on this list that would not want to use this product, even if it were FREE. Why? Quite simply, because it is a shoddy product, with poor support, afterthought integration and BOTTOM LINE, it just does not catch as many viruses as software already available from third-party vendors at a fraction of the price. I quite literally would not trade integrated Norton AV for MxGuard and CLAM AV + F-Prot if you PAID ME TO. Although Ipswitch's pricing for this product is indeed ridiculous when compared to the competition, price is not the issue for most of us who do not use this add-on product, and who do not want it forced upon us as a package deal. I already get far superior virus scanning on my Imail box for having paid $99 for MxGuard and a yearly subscription to F-Prot for $40 ($0 for CLAM AV), which includes unlimited users on up to 10 servers or workstations. You can not consider Norton a "value added" service when it actually catches LESS viruses than I am stopping now for practically nothing. Although the problems with Norton's "market leading" integrated Imail AV solution go far further than just the updates themselves, a report posted to this list earlier in the week showed test results that would scare the living daylights out of any admin relying upon their services. Far from being the market leader, Norton ranks as one of the worst AV scanner applications on the market, when it comes to response times regarding new updates. I think that I speak for many on this list when I say that forcing us to use what we on the list have repeatedly heard is an inferior product forced upon us, and then telling us to pay a LOT extra to have it included, is like adding insult to injury. Point blank... If I replace F-Prot and CLAM AV with your product, I WILL be passing on more viruses to my users. That is a statistical fact that neither you nor I can ignore. The groupware situation is a bit different. I haven't seen many posts on this list criticizing the performance of the software. What I mostly see is a total lack of need for the software, and either a financial inability to pay for it and/or an attitude of resentment that we are being told "you want this. You need this" (paraphrasing) by Ipswitch representatives that have NO clue as to what my company, myself or my customers need, let alone how much we can afford to spend. When we have pointed out that we neither need nor can afford the software, your employee has told us that if we don't like it, to go somewhere else. In my business, the customer is always right. We do everything that we can to retain our customers. They are loyal to us, and we are loyal to them. Some of us take this matter very personally, as we have invested THOUSANDS of hours on tweaking and administering our Imail systems. Ipswitch has hit a nerve, and instead of trying to calm us down, we have been antagonized and stirred up like a hornets next. Jill, on the other hand, has been doing her best to tow the company line, but her answers are just not the answers that we want to hear. She is trying to sell ice to the Eskimos, and no one is buying. She is in an indefensible position, not of her own choosing (I think), so I can't really fault her personally, and certainly would never launch any type of personal attack against her (I don't recall seeing any posts that did). I will be looking forward to the announcement on Monday. Short of claiming temporary insanity, some firings, or giving us some employee's head on a stick though, I think you will find that the company has suffered at least some irreversible damage in the way of PR and brand loyalty. For everyone's sake, I hope that this announcement is enough to make up for all of the crap we have been put through this past week. Best of luck.
