I believe they do care to a degree, but they've made the hard decision and
they will stick by it, even in light of the complaining and loosing many
customers. Someone, somewhere must have shown them a light at the end of a
different tunnel that leads to the pot-o-gold that is worth pursuing.
Personally, I do believe this was a fool-hearted mistake to say the least as
they are loosing a large customer base in pursuit of a dream, even though
I'm sure they have numbers to prove that it's worth it. I will say though if
I was in the market for a collaboration suite I would consider the ICS. But
for most of us here there is no need for anything like that.

I do hope that they do reconsider having a stand-alone product though I
doubt it will happen. In the meantime, I'll keep using Imail but will be
looking at an alternative come spring.

Troy

Good luck Craig, and thanks for letting them know your feelings. Another one
bites the dust! Do they care?

I have not said much on this issue as of yet and I don't really plan to say
much. But I do agree with Ted that we need to let Ip$witch know how we feel.
If we don't let them know what we want and how we feel, they will not know
how to fix it. However I am not expecting anything with this snafu to be
fixed.

To the folks at Imail:

Imail Server fits what we need which is an email server for a single domain
that hosts about 6500 mailboxes and works with Active Directory.
We do not want a more robust system like Exchange as that would be overkill
for the students here. Now that you are offering an Exchange-like
application suite and are moving away from Imail Server, we are looking to
move away from Imail Server as well. Because of the lack of respect and
courtesy you have shown towards your customers and the evasive answers you
have given to questions on this list, we are in the early stages of
evaluating alternatives.

However, I do want to thank you, Ipswitch, for a few things. You provided me
with an email server with many functions that I like and will look for in
other products. You have provided me with just about the best support tool I
have ever used for any software (this forum).
And over the last few weeks, you have also shown me how you really feel
about your customers (a bunch of walking checkbooks) and also given me
enough reason to look at alternatives which has opened my eyes to features
your product doesn't provide or doesn't provide well. Also, your answer
concerning purchasing a new license for Imail Server is that you will
evaluate requests on a "case by case basis". What kind of policy is this? We
are not in the market to buy another license but if we were, I would NOT
want to deal with a company that looks at software sales on a case by case
business. I would want to buy from a company that you know will actually
sell you a product and will state the price up front without knowing who I
am or why I need it.

To the members of this list:

Thank you for the support you have given in the past. I have not had an
issue that I could not resolve with the help of this list and the archives.
I have called Ipswitch support and was not very pleased with the response. I
also think the online "knowledge base" is almost useless. But this list has
helped me solve many problems. Good luck to those of you moving on to other
systems. And good luck to those staying with Ipswitch.

I know inside that Tom is correct if Ipswitch intended to do anything else
they probably would have done so by now. Hence I am going to try and quell
my annoyance about this and not say anything else unless responding to
another comment on this subject. But you also have choices to Tom, if these
posts or this logic bugs you please do not read on as most of it is intended
for Ipswitch anyway. Note the subject lines and assume it's not a happy time
for the poster.

However I want to say this first before I stuff a sock in my mouth: I
strongly feel that if anyone that hasn't commented yet, they really should
do so because the overall count should mean something to somebody at
Ipswitch. For every 10 of us that move on from the old SA price of $495 (10
X $495 = $4950) they will need to sell one more ICS full version to make up
for losses or 7 new Service Agreements. Or they will need to keep 7 of 10
hooked into $695 a year to not lose profits. That also means that 300 lost
clients would mean 30 ICS servers needing to be sold to make up for the
$148500.00 yearly profit loss they're looking at, or 213 new Service
Agreements to be sold at $695 each. If ICS is selling like hotcakes then boo
on me for thinking this way. But if Ipswitch is in the dire straights they
claim they are and can't afford existing operating costs, boo on Ipswitch
and we may stand to lose out if we do stay since they could go under.

On the other hand if they can meet the 30 ICS sales and get rid of 300 loyal
clients, they have it made since their support costs will be covered with
300 less possible calls the next time they or Microsoft release something
new that breaks things! People need to understand this and voice their
opinion and intentions so those in Ipswitch marketing that do care can do
the math and maybe rethink this once again. That $495 offer issued today is
just sucker bait to keep us a little longer IMHO! I may do it just for
giggles because this is only partly about the extra money. Everything else
is born from concern about if Ipswitch will be able to stay afloat long
enough for me to get my SA fulfilled.

An extra $200 a year for compromising my principles and annoying our clients
has never been a luxury that we web hosts can have in good faith. In fact
those that allow spamming from their servers and those that are willing to
undersell for legitimate companies are forcing us to give more for less.
We
don't mind as it still pays the bills. We also treat our $4.95 per month
clients the same as we treat our $250 a month colo-server clients, free
support and they are always right even when there is nothing wrong at our
end!

Maybe we could all get what we want and everyone would be happy again and
prosper when they realize they made a mistake and do what they already
should have done! However that will never happen if everyone remains passive
and nobody steps up and speaks their minds!

For now I will say no more on my accord, but if anyone makes a valid point I
will most likely commend that person for having the courage to step up and
make it known.

Actually there are quite a few of us who are tired of the ranting.
Everything that there is to say, has been said, ad nauseum. Things are what
they are and if you don't like the way they are, find a new product or
adjust. Either way it's time to let it go people.

Chris, William is on a roll... don't bring down the energy level!
Besides, he has posed some good questions that Ipswitch owes everyone
answers to.
