After you complete this fix do you expect the performance of the traditional UNIX mailbox format to be a) the same as 2004g, b) better than 2004g or c) worse than 2004g ??? I doubt it's the last one but will it be better than 2004g?

Traditional UNIX mailbox format will be about the same in 2006b.

However, appends to a traditional UNIX mailbox file will be slower because of the UIDPLUS support. However, they shouldn't be ridiculously slower as they were in 2006 and 2006a.

The problem was heap thrashing, and was surprisingly easy to fix once that was identified as the cause.
