Because those entities affect the behavior of the IMAP names.
Lots of things do, most of which are rightly ignored by RFC3501.
I assert that if the client lists /pro/% that it would be a mistake to hide /pro/con.
Then should a file system-based server running on Windows advertise \noinferiors \noselect entities called "null" etc. in every directory, to prevent the client from creating mailboxes by that name? (On Windows you can't have a file or directory called null, con, com1, etc. I don't remember the disgusting details any more. If anyone does, please don't remind me.)
