It's the same on my system (Python 2.5) where it works. No - it should be fine without any changes. I suspect there's something veeery wrong somewhere - but I can't find what - keep in mind that the remote system I'm talking about is clean, with no transparent proxies or strange things like these, and hosted on a more-than-trusted provider.
