What IMAP server is being used? It might be an issue with not having CONDSTORE/MODSEQ available that needs to be looked at (there was code prior to 2.6.1 that was incorrect in how we were calling some imap library methods when CONDSTORE is not available and this was changed in 2.6.1).
This time it is Dovecot 2.0.19 as shipped with Ubuntu 12.04 LTS, the other server is Cyrus 2.4.17 which you have tested recently as working... But as said after re-pairing it works again, it is only troublesome to update with existing ActiveSync user base :-(
