Indeed, I am. If all of prstat's shortcomings were fixed, and if
invoked as top (via a symlink) it looked exactly like top (except that
it benefited from more accurate numbers that prstat can provide), and
provided all the functionality of top, would that not be acceptable?

That is indeed what I am suggesting, just in a roundabout way :)

Of course, there is another alternative too: fix all of the
shortcomings in prstat and top and ship the best possible version of
each tool...
