There's a huge gap between the gnu userland that SX delivers and what
it could be delivering. So I totally agree. A couple years ago when the
Nexenta team started their project, the gap was so big that they based
their entire "business case" on it -- and created a healthy niche of
Nexenta users as a result. BeleniX too. BeleniX tends to be unfairly
oversimplified as just a LiveCD, but have a peek in /usr/foss. Put
/usr/foss/bin ahead of /usr/bin in $PATH and you've got a seamless GNU
command-line environment. (IOW, I bet GNU userland is as responsible
for BeleniX popularity as much as it being a LiveCD.)

Fortunately for Nevada/SX (and therefore Indiana), the OpenSolaris GNU
project that was developed last year opened the door for GNU userland
to go into /usr/bin, bigtime. In fact, in theory, for the last six
months (since the project passed ARC) there's nothing except the need
for volunteers preventing GNU userland from *flooding* into /usr/bin.
