What I am proposing is a slight variant on your theme. You are proposing that we do this as part of the install process. I feel that this is too late in the game to catch those people who tried running the Sun Device Detector, and realized they can't run OpenSolaris. (On their Windows, Linux and other laptops). We already have the SDDT, that we are directing people to run today. We should work to update that tool now. (Later, we could write another tool that could be written that is Indiana specific, and interfaces with the same database.) Basically, this is an almost solved problem, let's just close the loop, instead of starting from scratch. A couple more additions I'd like to make to the SDDT: Make it check in for device list updates, and check in for updates of the tool itself. (Kind of like Firefox does). Does anyone know who we need to talk to to get a project like this greenlighted? (I'd guess the folks that own the tool now, should be one of the first stops.) -- - Brian Gupta http://opensolaris.org/os/project/nycosug/ _______________________________________________ indiana-discuss mailing list [email protected] http://mail.opensolaris.org/mailman/listinfo/indiana-discuss
