It's the mailing list for project Indiana. Which produces a binary distribution of OpenSolaris. There are other project mailing lists as well that are associated with OpenSolaris (clearview-discuss for instance). It's an open list that the community can participate on. And it produces an OpenSolaris distribution (just like milax, schillix, nexenta and the like). I know I for one don't want to see opensolaris-discuss (or any general purpose mailing list) become a discussion point for *every* possible distribution of OpenSolaris. Which seems to me what you're asking for.
