I think that Oracle is buying Sun to reach markets where they don`t have any presence.
So MySql is the biggest internet database where Oracle has almost 0%, also with Solaris and Sun Servers. When Big companies need to run their heavy and robust Oracle database they go to Solaris and Sun Server. Oracle will be to able to almost put an appliance in the market: Server, OS, Database, desktop (SunRay) all in one solition. They can also invest more in ours open stuffs, to make then better to run any kind of Oracle products.
