Of the past Oracle software acquisitions, they've keep the names the same (Weblogic, PeopleSoft, Seibel, etc.) and the products the same. Oracle's idea is to the keep a good thing going, not spend a bunch of money to kill off products. Frankly, this thinking has always amused me. I mean, why pay for something to just throw is away. We do that with things that are free (napkins, paper cups, etc.)
What is left to be determined is how the culture and open source mix with classic proprietary (ie expensive) products will be handled. Java and Solaris (including OpenSolaris) are at the top of the list as assets. That's clear. Both are open source - something truely new for Oracle. Give it 3 or 4 months before roadmaps for these start showing up. I for one would be very interested to see them when they start showing up on the Net. - Mike On Thu, Apr 23, 2009 at 5:08 PM, Thiago Pereira <[email protected]>wrote: > I think that Oracle is buying Sun to reach markets where they don`t have > any > presence. > > So MySql is the biggest internet database where Oracle has almost 0%, also > with Solaris and Sun Servers.
