Thanks prashant ji, for ultimately solving the mystery, also establishing that
our doubts about Ottelia were not unfounded. Fortunately our group has good
number of members with critical eye, and the mistake is not easily passed on.

  Dear Friends,

Thanks for the lead. This could be Echinodorus palaefolius.

Here is the link from toptropicals..

It would help if you could give links to websites featuring Ottelia
ovalifolia photographs.

Tabish ji thank you for the explanation. I have to inform you that
Jeejamata Udyan and Rani baug are one and the same place! There is a small
Japanese garden within Rani baug ( Jeejamata udyan) where this pic is taken.
So it is the same species. Several sites on the web too match the
characteristics of the pic with Ottelia ovalifolia. Awaiting Rani ji's response
to clarify the same.

      regards,
      Rashida.

The identification at Flowers of India website is probably misplaced.
Sagittaria has flowers in several distant clusters, and free carpels as seen in
your photograph. Your plant could be most probably Sagittaria guayanensis,
reported from India and Pakistan..

There are about 20 species of Sagittaria, I feel the closest is Sagittarai
rigida to my pic. I request your feedback for the same please. Thank you.
