TO BOTH INTEGRATIONIST & PRO-INDEPENDENCE PEOPLE OF EAST TIMOR

Brothers,

We had coexisted peacefully perhaps for thousands of years prior to the
colonization by both Portugal and the Netherlands and about 30 years before
Portugal left East Timor in 1975. I feel sorry for you that you did not become
in-
dependent simultaneously in 1945 and then the Cold War has deprived you to
get independence you deserved.

Now we ended up in international conflict diplomatically in the UN and worse:
bloodshed in East Timor which is perpetuated until this very moment and pro-
bably until tomorrow etc. etc. because Indonesia's presence caused such ani-
mosities and bloodshed and more bloodshed.

Only you can put an end to this bloodshed by proclaiming independence and
by forming an ad interim coalition regime of bothe pro-integrationists and
pro-
independence rightaway under the auspices of the Tripartite, the Indonesian
forces be converted from occupying forces to UN Peacekeeping forces together
with other participating countries, and prepare for the referendum of
plebiscite
for the future of East Timor.

Don't tell me you are not prepared yet, this is a statement of a chicken, you
will
never become independent as long as you keep protracting it. We, Indonesians
had leaders like Sukarno-Hatta who said that we were not ready for independ-
ence, but Chairul Saleh and Adam Malik kidnapped them and forced them un-
der the point of a gun to sign the Proclamation and announce it to the world!

You should do the same thing: get together peacefully under the auspices of
the
United Nations, set up the coalition regime, proclaim independence and then
you can prepare for referendum or plebiscite!
If some of the integrationists choose to stay as Indonesian citizens, no
problema,
you have the freedom to self-determination, but do it peacefully, no guns.

That is all I can say, I hope you can learn from us.
Good Luck!

Sincerely,
H.S. Hidayat Supangkat
